John Smeeton Dedicated to bringing the best possible gaming experience to our customers.Q: PostgreSQL docker windows using hibernate.hbm2ddl.auto Im a newbie docker user and I would like to know if it is possible to run hibernate hbm2ddl.auto against a Postgres DB for a local docker container, ideally using the docker-compose.yml file. I do not want to run the database on my windows machine. I have tried setting the environment variables on the Windows docker client machine and mapping them to postgres, but with no success. Is this possible? My docker-compose.yml file is the following: version: '2' services: db: image: postgres command: '-c' environment: - POSTGRES_PASSWORD=my_secret_password - POSTGRES_DB=my_database_name volumes: -./app:/app ports: - "5432:5432" restart: on-failure A: As you have a dockerfile, you don't need to use docker-compose to configure the service, just use the command as follows: docker build -f your_dockerfile --build-arg my_password="my_secret_password" --build-arg my_database_name="my_database_name". The parameters my_password and my_database_name will be used as docker environment variables in your container, also in your docker-compose, you should use the volume. my_password my_database_name For the other options use the volumes to mount a folder from the host into the container, you can also use docker-compose to mount folders.
