Wake frequencies are developed by a person (often a thermopile engineer) to find the calculated estimate. This usually involves taking readings of internal and external temperatures and sensors and calculating the frequency using application note PTC-19.3. The calculated result can be compared to the ASME PTC-19.3-2016 standard. The goal is to meet the mechanical tolerance specification based on the calculated result. The specification most commonly imposed on the mechanical tolerance of the thermowell is the allowable stress differential or error divided by the length of the thermowell. The calculation does not consider the thermal factor of the thermopile. This means that the temperature range where the thermopile is working does not enter the calculations and therefore the internal temperatures and the temperature difference between internal and external temperature are not used.
